Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Talks The Other Woman, Game Of Thrones Fans

NEW YORK, N.Y. — Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is spotted on the set of ‘The Other Woman’ in New York City, April 30, 2013Caption “Game of Thrones” star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is having some fun on his latest project, “The Other Woman.” Not only is he paired up with Cameron Diaz and Leslie Mann for the big screen film, but unlike some of his other projects, he can talk fairly freely about it without fear of spoilers.

“It’s such a relief,” he laughed, when he spoke with from the New York City set recently.

While the Danish actor’s last two films — “Oblivion” with Tom Cruise and “Mama” with Jessica Chastain — had the actor tip toeing with his words prior to their release, “The Other Woman” allows him to dish in detail.

In the film, which is being directed by Nick Cassavetes (“The Notebook”), Nikolaj plays a less than faithful spouse, who hooks up with a character played by Cameron.

“I’m the husband to Leslie Mann and Cameron is the other woman and they kind of form some kind of bond, those two women,” he revealed.

“Then, they find out he has a third woman — that’s Kate Upton — and all three meet up and it’s one of those things where he has to pay a price for his wicked ways,” Nikolaj added.

The project will also star Nicki Minaj, but she isn’t expect to be yet another “Other Woman.”

“She’s in there as well, but I’m not having a [relationship with her], not as the script is now,” he said. “But who knows what happens. That’s a platonic relationship so far. But she’s a lot of fun, I have to say that.”

After his big dramatic arc as Jaime Lannister in “Game of Thrones” Season 3, Nikolaj said he’s been enjoying doing the light-hearted faire.

“I’m having fun. That’s for sure,” he said. “It’s a great part. He’s such a, I’m a real, what’s the word — d***? So that’s fun.”

Although he has both a thriving film career and a series regular gig on “Game of Thrones,” it’s the latter project that often prompts fans to come up to the actor with a comment or two. And after Jaime’s recent transformative journey, one that saw him lose his hand and later, reveal his true colors to Gwendoline Christie’s Brienne of Tarth, Nikolaj been getting a different reaction than he got in Seasons 1 and 2 (when he was thought of as the guy who shoved Bran Stark out of a window).

“It has changed,” he told Access. “After the episode where I had my hand chopped off, I think at least 100 people came up to me [in] the days after [and said]… ‘I’m glad to see you’ve got your hand.’ … I think what’s been amazing is… the people that like the show are always just really excited about it. Even in Season 1 where they’re like, ‘You freak! You’re disgusting!’ it’s still said with a smile because you kind of appreciate the character because he’s always had — even though he’s done some horrible things, he’s had a wit about him.”

“The Other Woman” will hit theaters in April 2014.

“There [were] a few bars in New York where people, in Season 1, were shouting, ‘Kingslayer!’ They’re just drunken guys, but they’re very kind. They sent down a couple of beers. So I have no complaints. I haven’t had any bad experiences to be honest,” he added.

Looks like our King Slayer is joining a comedy. The film is called The Other Woman and stars Cameron Diaz. Nikolaj will join actress Leslie Mann and the film will be directed by Nick Cassavetes. This is such good news for Nikolaj and it’ll be good to see him in another comedy. I loved him in THE BAKER with Damian Lewis. We know he’ll be good in this. Seems Nikolaj is looking for some levity in his roles considering the heavy, heavy ones he’s had with MAMA and season three of GAME OF THRONES. Keep ’em coming Nikolaj. Information below.

Leslie Mann & ‘Game Of Thrones’ Star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Find ‘The Other Woman’ With Cameron Diaz

It looks like not only are things coming together for Cameron Diaz to appear as the title character in the upcoming comedy “The Other Woman,” now fellow lady comedian Leslie Mann and up-to-now serious Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, best known for his role in “Game Of Thrones,” are in talks to star opposite Diaz as man and wife. Kristen Wiig was once reported to be under consideration for what may now be Mann’s role — but maybe that’s because it’s obligatory to consider Kristen Wiig for an appearance in every comedy.

“The Other Woman” will be directed by Nick Cassavetes and comes from a script penned by Melissa Stack, who wrote the 2007 Black List honoree “I Want To F— Your Sister.” The story follows a woman (Diaz) who finds out that she is “the other woman” in an extramarital affair, and teams up with her lover’s wife to seek revenge.

Just off of “This Is 40,” Mann will next be seen as a misguided mother in Sofia Coppola’s “The Bling Ring,” while Coster-Waldau was in “Mama” earlier this year, will reprise his “Game of Thrones” role on HBO on March 31st, and will continue to get more exposure in sci-fi flick “Oblivion” this April opposite Tom Cruise. I’ve been forgetting to get this up so my apologies for the lateness. Nikolaj in his press junket for MAMA sat in the red chair on the Canadian talk show George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight, also known as Strombo, to discuss the film as well as the success of GAME OF THRONES. There are two clips: One is the entire interview, the other is a snippit solely about GAME OF THONES that does not appear in the interview. Included is a comment from A Song of Ice And Fire author George R. R. Martin where he talks about the morality of the show and the duality of the characters from the series. Very informative I’d say. Please enjoy. It’s my pleasure to be bringing this to you from my native Canada.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau guested on George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight to discuss his film 'Mama' and his series 'Game of Thrones'.

According to what I’m reading MAMA will have a May release date on DVD. This will be in both Blu-Ray and regular DVD. I’ll keep an eye out and let you know when there’s something more permanent.

With the success of MAMA worldwide, Universal is considering a sequel to the film. Various sources are quoted below. According to the various reports the new films will not star Nikolaj or Jessica Chastain, rather, new sets of characters with other protectors. My guess is it might be Papa, Uncle, Auntie, Cousin, Second Nephew on the Mama’s side, Family Dog or something equally as interesting. I say ‘interesting’ with tongue firmly planted in cheek. I personally think any further sequels might dilute the originality of the first film. I agree with director Andy Muschietti. What do you think?

David Kosse says:

“We think there’s potential for a Mama franchise… We’d like to do another one. But those conversations are in the early stages. Mama is the first of this type of model that we’ve had enormous success with so there are more opportunities for this kind of film.”

However, director Muschietti isn’t interested in turning the film into an ongoing series.

He told Screencrush, “We sort of wore out the subject matter…I never thought this could continue. Sequels are always tricky. I know how studios think but I don’t see ‘Mama’ as something you can exploit because you’re screwing with the original.”

Guillermo del Toro's moody thriller starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Jessica Chastain took in $28.1 million in its opening weekend.

MAMA ended up at number one at the box office this weekend taking in $28.1 million over the weekend. This bodes well for Nikolaj. Yeah, I know people will likely say that it was Jessica Chastain that pulled in those bucks, but with Nikolaj’s profile since GAME OF THRONES I would suspect there are more than enough Jaime Lannister fans out there to have made some dent in that figure. But hey our guy is getting noticed. With OBLIVION due out in April and GAME OF THONES due back in March I’d say Nikolaj has nothing to be ashamed of.

And the gifts just keep giving. I have a featurette on MAMA where producer Guillermo del Toro talks about his reasons for casting Nikolaj in the dual roles of Lucas and Jeffrey. Nikolaj also talks about Lucas’ search for his nieces and what was found in the forest.

I was contacted by someone at Tribute.CA with a contest for Nikolaj’s Canadian fans only. Here’s your chance to win free advanced passes to see MAMA in the following cities, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver and Winnipeg. The screening is for January 17, 2013 and the contest is only open to Canadian citizens and closes on January 14, 2013. So if you’re a fan of Nikolaj’s and would like to enter follow the link below.

Two new things on Nikolaj’s promotion for the film MAMA. The first is the New York premiere and the other is an appearance on the Good Day New York morning show where he discusses MAMA and the impending return of GAME OF THRONES where by gosh, he still defends our favourite Kingslayer. Nikolaj looks so good. I don’t know if it’s me but he seems to be getting younger. I’m also loving some of the clips from MAMA with those two little girls who play his nieces in the film. I’m wondering if Nikolaj was thinking at all of Safina and Phillipa?

I know there haven’t been many updates for a while, but with GAME OF THRONES about to begin its third season on 31 March 2013 there haven’t been many things to report. Nikolaj does, however, have a new film. I have an interview with Nikolaj where he does talk about his new film MAMA due out in theatres January 18th. Nikolaj talks about the dual characters he plays in twins Jeffrey and Lucas. He gives some information on the plot of the film and what it was like working with director Andrés Muschietti and producer Guillermo del Toro.
