A bit of a treat for you in the GAME OF THRONES post finale haze. I have some HD screencaps of Nikolaj in the Ridley Scott Dark Ages film KINGDOM OF HEAVEN where Nikolaj played the part of the Village Sheriff. This film was done in 2005 and was about the fight for the Holy Land of Jerusalem during the early part of the Crusades in 1184. The film stars Orlando Bloom in a much maligned role of Balin, the savior of Jerusalem. Bloom was pretty good in this. I was very amazed at his performance given he had to literally carry the film on his own shoulders. If anyone does go and rent or buy it, please hold an open mind. Also starring Liam Neeson, Eva Green, Edward Norton, Brendan Gleeson, Marton Csokas, Ghasson Massoud, Alexander Siddig and a GAME OF THRONES connection for Nikolaj. In the final scenes of the film Balin has returned to his village in France where he encounters some more Crusaders on their way to the Holy Land. Richard de Lioncourt or Richard The Lionheart approaches the village with his men. The part of King Richard II is played by none other than Iain Glen who plays Ser Jorah Mormont. When I was screencapping I thought it was funny I’d been watching him as Ser Jorah but not remembering him in KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. I’d remembered the voice funnily enough but failed to make the connection back to this film. What’s the saying, Six Degrees of Separation? Totally. The only drawback to this film is that Nikolaj gets killed, cleaved in the head by Liam Neeson. Have I said how much I hate Qui-Gon Jinn?
